WIZARD OF OZ LOVERS WILL REVEL IN BFA FAIRFAX PLAY

By Bob Bessette - St. Albans Messenger - April 10, 2003

Lions, and Tigers and JITTERBUGS!!?? Sound Familiar? Well it should if you have ever seen "The Wizard of Oz". Of course, the popular Judy Garland movie version has lions, tigers and BEARS, not Jitterbugs. I had the privilege of attending the dress rehearsal on Tuesday night of BFA Fairfax's production of the musical play.

The play stars students of all ages and is the result of director Richard Hanson's dream to produce a play to celebrate BFA's 100th birthday celebration with artistic style. He has more than done that. All of your favorite characters including Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion are brought to life with incredible costumes and the impressive talent of the performers who fill them.

And of course, don't forget the Good Witch who is truly beautiful and the Wicked Witch of the West who is, as all good wicked witches should be, ugly and terrifying. The Munchkins are absolutely adorable. The entire cast works together in perfect ensemble fashion to bring the Land of Oz to life on the stage of BFA. The orchestra, composed of BFA Band members and other musicians from Fairfax and the area, is directed by Bruce McRae, BFA Band Director. It is truly a show worth seeing. Show dates are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, April 10th, 11th and 12th at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on Saturday April 12th at 2 p.m.
